It Would Not Be Yakima Without These 5 Businesses
Yakima, by any other name, is still Yakima. Growing up here and seeing several businesses come and go it's nice to see some staple traditions here in the valley with new ones that have popped up and stood their ground. Here are five businesses that, if they were gone, Yakima just wouldn't feel the same.
Honorable Mentions
Honorable mentions would be Memorial Hospital (not sure if you count a hospital as a 'business') as well as the Yakima Museum. I would also include local media like newspaper, TV and our dear radio stations, naturally. Services or job centers as well like the airport, Del Monte, Shields and more places like that. Yakima wouldn't feel the same without them but hoping to stick with businesses on this one.
Businesses that would make Yakima totally different if not here anymore.
Fiddlesticks
It may be a store you haven't visited in a while, but I guarantee you that if it was no longer on the corner of festive and fun (coincidentally, 16th and Summitview) you'd miss this place. The perfect store when you don't know what you're looking for, exactly, but soon as you see it you know you can't live without it.
Hy's
The perfect store for a quick snack and, possibly, the best mini-mart deli case in town. This place is legendary for most and would be so sad to see it go. It has no reason to leave anytime soon so we should consider ourselves lucky.
Meadowbrook Family Fun Center
I was so happy when they put in a fun arcade and mini-golf course and with more like the batting cages and bumper boats in the summer, it's a great place to bring kids, maybe go on a first date or even have a birthday party. I'm here to tell you, the pizza isn't bad!
McDonald's on 1st and Nob Hill
We have several McDonald's locations in Yakima but, aside from the one that used to be inside the Yakima Mall, I think this one on the busiest intersection in Yakima would be sadly missed if it wasn't there as it's such an iconic location for Yakima, along with Bonnie and Clyde next door.
Miner's
I know this is a little more Union Gap than Yakima, but still. If there wasn't a Miner's burger place in our area, it would be devastating for so many.
